California
The North Coast
California is synonymous with wine. With so many wine-producing regions, the climate and geography incredibly diverse, the possibilities are endless. Great wines are being made from an ever-growing range of grape varieties. About 100 grape varieties are grown in the state. California now produces more than 90% of all wine made in the country.
The states wine regions cover more than 427,000 acres stretching more than 700 miles from rolling forests of Mendocino in the North to the sun-drenched hills of Temecula south of Los Angeles.
In this class we will concentrate on the North where we have some of California’s major wine regions. We will explore some of the familiar regions of Napa Valley, Sonoma County and Carneros and then travel more or less north to south through Mendocino and Lake Counties.
